Václav Cigler is a glass artist with legendary status in Europe.  He is considered the ‘father’ of contemporary Slovak glass and is a revered teacher with many successful students. At 80 years of age Cigler remains a vital force in the glass community creatively engaged in numerous projects and museum installations. His works are included in more than 25 museums internationally.  It has been written that “Cigler’s objects inspire contemplation and search for spirituality, conscience and truth.” This exhibition presents a rare opportunity for Americans to see his latest, smaller scale sculptures. Cigler was born in Vsetin, Czech Republic, in 1929. He attended Vsetin Grammar School, and from 1948 to 1951 he was at the glassmaking school in Nový Bor. He studied at the Prague Academy of Arts under the direction of Josef Kaplický from 1951-1957. From 1965-79 he was in charge of the Studio of Glass Architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts,, Bratislava.
