Collection 23

The Living Room

"We actually have three separate collections. We began, in 1974, collecting photographs, followed in 1981 with modern studio glass. These two collections were displayed in our home. In 1994, we purchased a second home and decided to broaden the collection to include contemporary forms of basketry, fabrics, ceramics, oils, works on paper, functional furniture and sculpture.

The 2800+ photo collection was housed mainly in the first home. Because we decided to become residents in the second home, access to the photo collection was limited and the decision was made to de-accession those photo items in the collection that were not displayed on the walls of the two homes.

Because we had art items that could be shipped from the first home to the second, we never felt compelled to buy in order to fill empty spaces in the new home. We collected what we both liked and expanded into the other art media."
