Dear AACG Members,

Palm Beach 3 has come and gone with another successful show.  Glass was well represented, although the Heller Gallery was missed.  Our thanks to Doug Anderson and Kati Erickson (Assistant Director of Palm Beach 3) for providing our members with free passes to the show. The trip to New York was April 2-6.  Thanks to Paul and Amye Gumbinner for their hard work and great connections, which made this trip fabulous!  The homes and museum tours were spectacular, and the UrbanGlass Gala with AACG being honored made it even more special.  I apologize to those members who wanted to participate in this trip but could not because of space limitations.   IN THE FUTURE, WHEN TRIPS ARE OFFERED, AND IF YOU LIKE WHAT YOU SEE, PLEASE SEND YOUR CHECKS IN IMMEDIATELY.

The interim board meeting and tour in Portland (June 15-18) also looks great, thanks to Richard Sloan and Bullseye Gallery (Lani McGregor and Ryan Watson).  We will visit private residences with glass collections, the Portland Art Museum, a number of the local galleries, and see many glass artists (GAS conference starts Thursday).  The tour is sold out, but board members who have not already responded can still come for the meeting.

AACG’s first international glass trip is also going well.  With Blair Corkran’s leadership, passion and knowledge, how could it not! We will be visiting private homes with glass collections, museums, galleries and glass artists in Amsterdam, Cologne and Luxembourg. Included will be a dinner cruise in Amsterdam.  Thanks, Blair, for all of your hard work. There is still very limited availability for this trip, and when it fills there will be a waiting list. (see article below). My thanks also go to Laura Deremo, Linda Greene and Arlene Silvers for all of their help and tolerance. Putting up with me can be a challenge.

It is not too soon to begin making plans for SOFA Chicago (November 6-9).  Our tour day will be on Thursday morning, November 6.  Please consult the information on page 3 for a list of hotels reserved with SOFA rates.

One last order of business:  Last year there were four couples who chose to donate at the “Founder” ($1000) AACG membership level.  I would like to ask that you consider joining Doug and Dale Anderson, Sheldon and Myrna Palley, Robert and Florence Werner, and Donna and me by renewing at the “Founder” membership level for 2008.  Remember that the money goes toward AACG grants and that your donations are tax deductible to the extent approved by your tax professional.

I look forward to seeing you as our busy travel year begins.
Sincerely,

Sincerely,

Mickey J. Mandel
